Review and Research

An ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) is a remotely operated underwater robot connected to a control unit, a laptop located on the surface, by means of an umbilical cable that exchanges control and video signals from the underwater vehicle. ROVs are always controlled by a pilot who views the video in real time at the ground station. In situations where the vehicle is autonomous and does not require an operator, they usually become devices without an umbilical cable, and are referred to as AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle).
Traditionally, there are two types of ROV: the so-called Inspection-Class and the Intervention-Class. In other words, those that serve for visual inspections and those that are designed to do heavy work such as drilling, sawing, welding, etc. Observer, can be categorized as mini-ROV, works in the Inspection-Class sector.
Although the ROVs within this category are usually used only for visual inspection purposes, Searover underwater robot offers several functions that are normally only available in higher categories, such as:
-Lateral movement capacity, fundamental for the inspection of ships or structures.
-Omnidirectional stability control (6 Degrees Of Freedom)
-Space for additional useful pieces (robotic clamp, sonar, water quality sensors, positioning, sample collection, etc.)
They are easy to use, and only require a laptop and a gamepad. They have a quick learning curve due to their intuitive controls such as joysticks, and are easy to configure and operate. Its small size makes it easy to perform an underwater inspection job, without the need of cranes or generators.
In general terms, a ROV consists of one or more watertight compartments where electronics are housed, with one or more cameras, two or more propellers, flotation and ballasting elements, an umbilical cable, and a surface control station. With these elements a basic ROV can be constituted for visual inspections, but more elements are added for more advanced applications, such as acoustic sensors, different types of cameras, robotic arms, bottles for the collection of samples, etc.
The difference between the different categories within this type of vehicle lies in the use of different materials to increase its depth of operation, a more accurate sensorization for positioning.
